Golf can fun and relaxing, especially when you’re playing well. However, it can also be dangerous. Yes, golf can be dangerous. This is not a typo. Golf can be played by anyone. Whether you’re young or old, short or tall, fit or unfit, anyone can play golf. However, with its increasing popularity, there is also a raise in golf related injuries to the low back, shoulders, hips, wrists and elbows.

Take the elastic band. Remember how far you can shoot it. The more you pull it back, the greater amount of power is stored in the elastic band. And when you release it, the stored potential energy is transferred into kinetic energy.

Playing golf is a lot like shooting an elastic band. The more potential energy you stored in your body during the backswing, the greater power you can hit the ball. Golf is a technical game. Its precision relies on proper stance, posture and techniques not raw, physical power. Unfortunately, many golfers believe that it’s raw, physical power that gives them the edge. This kind of misconception can lead to injuries and inaccurate shots.

There are a couple of ways for you to reduce injuries. Even if you’ve been playing golf for years, I suggest that you take some golf lessons. You’ll learn proper stance and techniques for driving, chipping and putting.

The other way is to have and maintain a healthy spinal-muscle system. Like the elastic band, the healthier your muscles, joints and spine are, the more potential energy you can store in them. Muscles that are fibrotic, tight and knotty will not give you full range of motions. A stiff and restricted spine also limits your full range of motions.

Without full mobility and flexibility in your spine, joints and muscles, you have limited backswings and follow-throughs. You’ve already lost some of the power and precision with your drives, chips and puts. Some golfers will compensate by over twisting their spine, shoulders or hips; while others will try to wack the ball as hard as they can. Sounds familiar?

Stretching can improve your muscle flexibility. So, make sure you stretch the muscles in your neck, shoulders, low back, hips and knees before teeing off.

Stretching helps a lot, but it can only go so far. Stretching relieves some muscle tightness and tension. But muscles that are fibrotic and knotty can still limit your full range of motions. What about poor postural alignment or stiff and restricted spinal joints? They too can limit your full power.

If you want to lower your golf score, improve your strokes and minimize injuries to your neck, back, shoulders, hips and knees, consider getting chiropractic care. Chiropractic loosens muscles that are fibrotic, knotty and tight. It improves your posture and body mechanics. Chiropractic also relieves pain and increases joint mobility.

By having full range of motions in your spinal-muscle system, you’ll have more power and accuracy in your golf games. You can golf without worrying about injuries. You don’t have to compensate by over twisting your spine, shoulders or hips which can lead to inaccurate shots and injuries. You’re not stressed out trying to over-power that darn ball. Finally, you’re having fun again!
